Poetry Africa Festival. Durban November 2005

WELCOME  to my webpage.  Thanks for dropping by.   Its July and its Summer In The City. England is hot, hot hot.

Just returned from the recording studios at The Royal national Institution for the Blind (RNIB) in Camden. Recorded a couple of poems for a project called Benjamin’s House. A whole lot of poets have written poems about the house of poet playwright and novelist  Benjamin Zephaniah. It’s a joint project between BBC and  RNIB for 8 – 11year olds, due out January next year. In the other studio they were recording Lord of The Rings.

Talking of Lord of the rings I’ve put one of my poems recorded for the bbc World Aids Day at the mermaid theatre with an introduction by Sir Ian Mckellen,  on the recording page  I have put a loads of other recordings on their too.

I spent a week this month at The Hurst,  the late John Osbornes house in Suffolk. I was tutoring alongside poet Jack Mapanje and novelist Rajeev Balasubramanyam .The attendees were part of Sable. Check out Arvon too. Arvon has houses around the country,  including that of the late Ted Hughes adn sylcia plaith.  The houses run courses each week. Try it.

And then I raced off to The Latitude Festival to do a gig, with the likes of Luke Wright  of Aisle 16,   Attila the Stockbroker and the incredible Saul Williams. It’s been  a good month so far.

Last year The Proms featured a 30 minute concerto written by fraser trainer influenced by my poem called Advice For The Living. I got a recording of the piece today - a year later.

Jude kelly, the artistic director of The South Bank has asked me to be writer in residence for 2007. Find out more. Click.
