SATURDAY on a thursday at noon.

I was inmarleybone today, waiting in a café for my good good friend Whitney.  A summer downpour came out of the blue and bettered  the streetoutside in true English summer flash flood fashion. I love summer rain.  The light catches it as it bounces back offthe road. It’s like tinsel and who should walk past umbrella in hand but thewriter Ian McEwan.  What is wonderfulabout this is that Marleybone is the setting for his brilliant brilliant bookSaturday which is the story of one day in the life of a Neurosurgeon who livesin  Marleybone. The entire area is in the book, Harley St and thePost Office Tower. For a second I glimpsed the main character of the bookwalking to the next part of its story. A surreal  moment.
