Highlights of the Week: A room with a view to Ethiopia.

IMG_5074This is a run down of my week. I bump in to Jude Kelly and  Jan Younghusband with my friend Lisa Dwan an international PR for The Onesie at Southbank centre. Jude  takes us up – as ever – to A Room for London on top of The Queen Elizabeth Hall.   Later World Book Night.  Master of Cermonies Hardeep Sing Kholi is the chic boutique sikh. Charles Dance reclines,  Sebastian Barry paces like a farmer and Sarah Dunant hovers like a deviant Tinkerbell.  There are more, Mark Haddon, David Nicholls...IMG_5109Lisa Dwan's also an extraordianry actor presently performing  Beckett  at the Royal Court.  She showed  me the Onesie years ago. Ever the supportive friend  "That will never work" I said. "NEVER."  Here she is last week on Australian TV's most popular breakfast TV Show  I’m eating my onesie . My time on stage for World Book Night is now.I’m at Battersea Arts Centre to view a  Shed which I’m to transform. It’s a secret so I can't say what it will be.  It’ll be exhibited at The Roundhouse later this year through a project with Fuel.   Then I’m at Big House Theatre doing a photoshoot with Maggie Norris for next weeks  London Evening Standard. Big House Theatre Company is  for young people from care. It's special.IMG_5119It's night. I have my hand in a lion’s mouth at Salena Godden’s Babylonian Book Club Boutique,  a night of literature and louche hedonism. Imagine The Old Vic turned into a four floor members club. My place is set at a literary dinner on 3rd floor. Above is a casino and  below is a bar.The place is rocking. The joint is jumping. The words flowing. The next morning - Friday - I’m at Southbank Centre again but this time it's 8am. I'm with loads of artists who've all won one of twenty awards for the 1st ever UK-Wide New Music Biennial.  Later the same day I'm at my managers place in Notting Hill. She's the associate producer of Marley the film.  Suzette confirms that I I will be in Ethiopia on my birthday - May 21st -  performing on stage at Ethiopian National Theatre - built in the time of  Emperor Haile Selassie  - on May 23rd.  But should I do it in a Onesie?IMG_5130
